Bio

Sabina Magnus is a ceramic artist based in Brooklyn, NY.

With over 25 years of teaching experience, she has been sharing her practice in clay with hundreds of students over the years. In that time, she also managed a busy New York ceramic studio, organizing both the membership and students within that space. That work helped grow that studio into the bustling place for creativity that it is today. Her work in clay has evolved from functional ware to mostly sculptural. In her own recent work, she has been exploring botanical life, seed pods, leaves and flowers. Those little life forces we can keep in our hands and put in our pockets.

Exploring their forms in clay, their tactile quality is integral to Sabina's work. That comes from years of making functional ware where the functionality includes how things feel to the hand and lip. Also a consideration in her work is line quality, which comes from her early years of drawing and is seen as an important element to everything she produces. How things physically balance is another important feature of her work and comes from her interest in knowing how things balance with minimal intervention.

Sabina received a BFA from Parsons School of Design and enjoyed a productive career in graphic design, working on identity and promotional materials in NYC. Sabina has shown her ceramics work in galleries, retail settings and has work in private collections.
